Deacs Host Pair of Ranked Foes
• The No. 1 Wake Forest men's tennis team remains at home to take on No. 7 Illinois and No. 17 Duke on back-to-back days.
• The Deacs will host the Illini on Tuesday, March 20, before facing the Blue Devils on Wednesday, March 21. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
Last Time Out
• The Demon Deacons returned from a nearly month-long hiatus to open ACC play with a 7-0 sweep at Virginia Tech on Friday, March 16. Skander Mansouri took to the No. 1 singles spot for the first time this season and Julian Zlobinsky notched a win at No. 2 singles to improve to a perfect 6-0 this spring.
• The Deacs followed up Friday's win with a 4-1 home victory over No. 11 USC, the second time this year Wake Forest had defeated the Trojans by a 4-1 margin. Mansouri rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the third set to claim a 6-4 decision and clinch the match for the Deacs.
Deacs In The Rankings
• The Demon Deacons, after being ranked No. 1 to begin a season for the first time in program history, remain the top team in the weekly ITA rankings. They have been the No. 1 team in the USTA rankings for the last four weeks as well.
• Individually, six singles players and three doubles teams are ranked in the latest ITA rankings. The singles rankings are highlighted by Petros Chrysochos (No. 8) and Borna Gojo (No. 18), while the Chrysochos and Skander Mansouri team up to form the No. 5 doubles team in the country.
Scouting the Opponents
• Illinois is 10-4 on the year, including a 6-3 mark against ranked opponents, and will enter Tuesday's match No. 7 nationally. The Fighting Illini feature three ranked singles players, highlighted by No. 17 Alex Vukic.
• Duke is ranked 17th in the country and is 11-7 overall and 2-1 in ACC play. The Blue Devils defeated Virginia Tech (5-2) and NC State (6-1) while falling to North Carolina (4-3).
Next Time Out
• The Deacs head to the Sunshine State to take on Miami and Florida State this Friday and Sunday, Match 23 & 25.
