WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- No. 17 Coastal Carolina used a pair of big innings to defeat Wake Forest, 9-2, at David F. Couch Ballpark on Tuesday night.
The Chanticleers (24-11) plated three runs in the third and five in the fifth en route to the victory.
The Demon Deacons (14-20) were led offensively by Zach Seal, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, and DJ Poteet, who was 2-for-2 with a walk and stolen base.
William Fleming had a solid outing on the mound, throwing the final 2.2 scoreless innings for Wake Forest, allowing two hits and no walks.
Seth Lancaster hit a two-run homer to give Coastal a 3-0 lead, while a Zach Biermann two-run double and Keaton Weisz two-run single were the big blows in the fifth.
Chanticleer starter Matt Eardensohn (4-0) allowed one run on three hits and no walks in 4.1 innings with three strikeouts. Jay Causey struck out four in 2.2 scoreless frames and Patrick Orlando added a scoreless inning out of the pen.
Wake Forest hits the road this weekend for a three-game ACC series at Boston College.
