UWHARRIE POINT, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's golf team opened play Friday at the 2018 ACC Championship with the first round at Old North State Club. The Demon Deacons shot a 7-under round of 281 and are in fourth place after 18 holes.

Georgia Tech is the first round leader at 12-under, followed by Notre Dame at 11-under. Clemson is in third place at 9-under, two shots ahead of the Demon Deacons.

"It was a solid round and a very good start as a team," said head coach Jerry Haas. "Paul and Parker carried us today and I'm confident that the others will play well tomorrow."

Paul McBride led the Demon Deacons on Friday with a 6-under 66 and is in third place on the individual leaderboard, one shot off the lead. He finished the round strong, with birdies on the final three holes. Parker Gillam, making his ACC Championship debut, shot a 4-under 68 to end the day tied for ninth place.

Cameron Young shot a 1-over 73 and Eric Bae had a 2-over 74 to round out the scoring four for the Demon Deacons. Lee Detmer shot a 78 to complete the Wake Forest lineup.

The ACC Championship continues Saturday and concludes Sunday at the Old North State Club. Coverage on ACC Network Extra will be available beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
