No. 28 Deacs Drop Road Match at Boston College

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 28 Wake Forest women's team fell on the road at Boston College, 4-3, on Friday afternoon in Chestnut Hill.
The Demon Deacons (17-11, 5-8 ACC) jumped out to an early lead by taking the doubles point, but the Eagles (13-10, 5-9 ACC) roared back to win four out of six singles matches to earn the home victory.
In doubles action, the Deacs enjoyed an early edge as Mary Caroline Meredith and Eliza Omirou rallied from an early deficit to take their match at No. 2, 6-4. Minutes later, the No. 38 ranked duo of Emma Davis and Chandler Carter also prevailed, 6-4, to give Wake Forest a 1-0 match lead.
Boston College responded with a strong start in singles competition. The Eagles took the first set in three of the first four matches and added a quick straight-set victory at No. 4 to tie the match at 1-1.
The Deacs fell in straight sets at No. 2 to give Boston College a 2-1 lead before the Eagles took control of the match with No. 92 Asiya Dair's three-set win over Davis at No. 1.
Wake Forest picked up a hard-fought point at No. 3 as Carter outlasted Natasha Irani in three sets. After dropping the first set, Carter won a second-set tiebreaker to stay alive and cruised to a 6-3 win in the third set to cut Wake Forest's deficit to 3-2.
However, the Eagles clinched the match with a straight-set win at No. 6.
With the outcome decided, Anna Ulyashchenko picked up a three-set victory at No. 5 to conclude play.
Up next, Wake Forest concludes its regular season this Sunday, April 22 with a 12 p.m. match at No. 22 Virginia.
