WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest was edged by No. 14 Clemson, 4-3, at David F. Couch Ballpark on Saturday evening.

It marks the first home series loss for the Demon Deacons (18-22, 10-10 ACC) since 2016.

Wake Forest led 3-0 heading into the sixth, but the Tigers (28-11, 13-7 ACC) tied the game with three sixth-inning runs and pulled ahead in the eighth.

DJ Poteet hit an RBI triple to put the Deacs on the board in the third, and scored on a Patrick Frick RBI groundout.

Bobby Seymour rocketed a solo homer in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 3-0.

Morgan McSweeney cruised until the sixth inning, when a double and two walks loaded the bases. Clemson then scored three runs on a balk, RBI groundout and sacrifice fly to tie it at 3-3.

Seth Beer and Kyle Wilkie hit doubles in the eighth inning to plate what proved to be the winning run.

McSweeney finished with 6.2 innings pitched, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks. Rayne Supple (3-2) conceded his first run in almost a month, finishing with three strikeouts in 2.1 innings, allowing a run on two hits without a walk.

Brooks Crawford (4-2) earned the win for Clemson, allowing three runs on five hits with no walks. Carson Spiers and Ryley Gilliam held the Deacs hitless the final two innings to seal the win.

Wake Forest and Clemson close out the series on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
