ATLANTA -- Connor Thomas struck out 17 for Georgia Tech in a complete-game victory over Wake Forest, 5-1, at Russ Chandler Stadium on Saturday evening.

Thomas threw the second complete game in as many days for the Yellow Jackets (24-20, 11-12 ACC), allowing one run on four hits and a walk. The 17 strikeouts tie the most-ever by an opponent against Wake Forest, matching Clemson's Brian Barnes (1989) and Damon Vincent (1962).

The Demon Deacons (19-25, 10-13 ACC) received a strong effort from the top of the lineup, as Patrick Frick and Bruce Steel each went 2-for-4. The rest of the lineup, however, combined to go 0-for-23.

Georgia Tech scored four of its five runs via three home runs. Chase Murray hit a solo shot in the second and Colin Hall added a solo homer in the third. Kyle McCann hit a two-run homer in the seventh. GT's only other run came via a bases-loaded walk by Murray.

Wake Forest's lone run came in the fourth, when Frick doubled to lead off the inning, advanced to third on a Steel single and scored on a Jake Mueller RBI fielder's choice.

Morgan McSweeney struck out six batters in 6.1 innings, conceding five runs on six hits and five walks. Bobby Hearn struck out two in 1.1 hitless innings, while Antonio Menendez struck out the only batter he faced.

The final game of the series is Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
