Throwers Finish Competition at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field throwers wrapped up competition at the Penn Relays Saturday afternoon.
Elijah Shalaway took second in the men's javelin with a personal-best throw of 66.41m (217-10). Entering Saturday's competition, Shalaway's personal best was 64.88m (212-10.25), set at the Wake Forest Outdoor Opener this season. He now stands third on the Wake Forest all-time performers list.
Janese Lynch opened the competition for the Demon Deacons on Thursday in the discus. Lynch threw 40.67m (133-5), replacing her previous best mark of 40.42m (132-7.25) thrown last weekend at the Virginia Challenge.
On Friday, Max Adams finished seventh in a field of 30 competitors in the men's discus with a toss of 48.26m. He then went on to take 10th in a field of 49 athletes in the shot put with a mark of 16.05m (52-7.75) for a pair of top-10 finishes on the weekend.
Finally, Rachel Kern took 11th in the women's javelin with a throw of 41.78m (137-0) on Friday.
The remainder of the team will compete Saturday at the Virginia Grand Prix.
