HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Wake Forest was unable to overcome one costly inning in an 8-4 loss to High Point at Williard Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Panthers (23-18) took advantage of several Demon Deacon (20-26) pitching miscues to score all eight of their runs in the fourth inning. Wake Forest walked four batters, hit two more and allowed four singles en route to the Panthers' big inning.
The Deacon offense also failed to capitalize on several opportunities, stranding 13 total baserunners. Wake Forest left two or more baserunners four times, and stranded at least one in every inning but the ninth.
Logan Harvey had another strong day at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs. Michael Ludowig went 2-for-5 with an RBI double, as well.
Shane Muntz, Carter Bach, Rhyse Dee and Bobby Hearn each had scoreless outings in relief for Wake Forest. Muntz fanned three in 1.2 innings and Bach struck out four in 2.0 innings to lead the staff.
After holding the Panthers hitless through three innings, Jared Shuster allowed two on base via a hit and walk in the fourth. Both runners scored after he was relieved and he took the loss to fall to 0-2.
Muhammed Eid allowed two runs in 5.0 innings to earn the win for High Point. The Panthers were led by Travis Holt, who went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, and JJ Woodard was 2-for-3 with a walk.
Wake Forest travels to Elon on Wednesday before heading into a break for final exams.
