Deacs Set for ACC Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field programs are set to open the postseason with the 2018 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships held May 10-12 at Miami's Cobb Stadium.
Fourteen Demon Deacons, including five men and nine women, will compete in the three-day championships.
The schedule for the Deacs begins at 12 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday with Jordan Banks and Brionne Pyles in the heptathlon. Elijah Shalaway will start the competition on Saturday at 12 p.m. with the javelin.
Preliminary track events will be held Thursday and Friday with most final races being held Saturday.
ACC Network Extra will live stream action all three days with former Olympic decathlon gold medalist Dan O'Brien serving as color analyst. He will be joined by veteran ESPN play-by-play announcer Shawn Kenney, distance analyst David Mitchell and sideline reporter Melanie Newman. Coverage begins on Thursday at 6 p.m., Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at 5 p.m.
On the men's side, Robert Heppenstall will compete for his third All-ACC honor in the 800m after winning the event his freshman year and finishing third last season.
Also on the track, freshman Noah Shute will make his ACC Championship debut in the 100m and 200m while Craig Corti is set to compete in his first 10,000m race of the season. Corti finished 11th in the event at the conference championships last season.
In the field for the men, Max Adams will throw the shot put and the discus, entering ranked 10th and 11th in the events, respectively. Coming off a career-best performance at the Penn Relays, Shalaway enters the javelin competition ranked third.
For the women, Jordan Banks and Brionne Pyles will compete in the heptathlon on Thursday and Friday. Banks finished 11th at last year's championships while Pyles, a freshman, is competing in her first conference championships.
On the track, Sam Halvorsen and Eliza Lukens-Day will run the 5,000m while Mimi Smith will compete in the 10,000m. Halvorsen enters her first outdoor championships competition ranked 13th in the field while Lukens-Day is 15th in the 5k. This will be Smith's first 10k at the conference level and second of her career.
In the field, Alexandria Florent enters the high jump competition ranked tops in the conference. Florent has four high jump titles this season and has not placed outside the top-five since 2016.
Tesia Kempski will compete in the pole vault again after finishing seventh at last year's meet.
Freshman Janese Lynch will throw the shot put and discus while freshman Rachel Kern rounds out the field in the javelin and enters the event ranked third in the conference.
Pending the outcome of this weekend, the NCAA East Preliminary Round will be held May 24-26 in Tampa, Florida.
