Four Deacs Named ITA Scholar-Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. â€" Four Demon Deacons were recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for success in the classroom as the ITA announced its annual ITA Scholar-Athletes. Bar Botzer, Petros Chrysochos, Christian Seraphim and Julian Zlobinsky were all tabbed to the list
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
All four individuals were previously named to the All-ACC Academic Team, with Chrysochos being selected as the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
A communications major, Chrysochos led the Deacs to their first-ever NCAA Championship. The native of Larnaca, Cyprus led the team with a record-breaking 44-4 singles record, including a 30-match winning streak to end the season en route to the program's first-ever NCAA Singles Championship.
Along the way, Chrysochos posted a 27-1 record in dual matches, including a 23-1 mark at the No. 2 position. He went 30-3 against nationally-ranked opponents and finished the season ranked third nationally in singles play. He and Skander Mansouri won the ITA National Fall Championships doubles title and rose as high as No. 1 in the country in the doubles rankings. Chrysochos collected his third singles All-American honor, becoming the first player in program history to do so.
Botzer, a native of Tel Aviv, Israel, posted a 36-7 singles record, the second-most singles wins on the team this year and finished 26-8 in doubles play. Botzer highlighted the season by winning the clinching match for the team's first-ever NCAA Championship.
Seraphim capped his Demon Deacon career having been on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll all nine semesters he was on campus and making the Dean's List seven out of the nine semesters. Seraphim was named a recipient of the ACC postgraduate scholarship while majoring in business and enterprise management. On the courts, Seraphim ended his career tied for third all-time with 107 singles wins and tied for second with 108 career doubles wins.
Zlobinsky, in his first year at Wake Forest, finished the year 10-6 overall, including an 8-4 mark in dual matches, while owning a 12-4 doubles record. Zlobinsky earned Athletic Director Honor Roll as well as Dean's List honors in both semesters.
