Seven Demon Deacons will head to Boston for the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Seven members of the Wake Forest women's cross country team will head to Boston to compete in the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown Invitational this Friday.
The event takes place in Boston's Franklin Park, the site of the 2018 ACC Cross Country Championships. The women's featured 5K kicks off the competition at 3 p.m.
Samantha Halvorsen, Mimi Smith, Elise Wright, Georgia Evans, Anna Campbell, Johanna Schulz and Zoe Clay will represent the Demon Deacons. Halvorsen, Smith and Campbell will make their season debuts while Wright, Evans, Schulz and Clay will compete for the first time as Deacons.
Wake Forest will compete against 24 other teams, including fellow-ACC schools host Boston College, Georgia Tech, Pitt, Syracuse, North Carolina and Virginia. The team will also face four top-30 teams in No. 11 Providence, No. 22 Syracuse, No. 24 Minnesota and No. 27 Dartmouth. The event will include six women's teams that raced at the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Following Friday's competition, the men will head to the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Sept. 29. The teams will then compete in the Winthrop adidas Invitational on Oct. 5 in Rock Hill, South Carolina. That meet was rescheduled from Sept. 15 due to Hurricane Florence.
