Wake Forest Sixth in Nation in Final Fall Director’s Cup Standings

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest finished the fall ranked No. 1 in the ACC and No. 6 in the nation in the Learfield Director's Cup standings.
The Director's Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
Wake Forest scored 311 points during the fall season which included nine NCAA championships. Field hockey earned 83 points by reaching the national semifinals while both the men's and women's soccer teams scored 64 points apiece by reaching the round of 16. Women's cross country scored 28 points with a fourth place finish in the Southeast Regional while the men tallied 27 points with a fifth place finish.
Football scored 45 points with its 37-34 win over Memphis in the Birmingham Bowl.
Wake Forest's 311 points are the most the Demon Deacons have collected in the fall in the 26-year history of the Director's Cup.
Stanford leads the national rankings with 541 points, followed by Michigan with 38.5 and Penn State with 337.
Following Wake Forest in the ACC is Duke with 296 points, Notre Dame with 280 and NC State with 268.
Wake Forest's top finish in the Director's Cup came in 2006-07 when the Deacons finished 23rd with 708.5 points. Wake Forest's previous fall high point total was 300 points in 2006-07 when the Deacs ranked eighth after the fall season.
