BLACKSBURG, Va. – Wake Forest opened a two-game trip to top-10 foes on Saturday with an 87-71 loss to No. 9 Virginia Tech at Cassell Coliseum. The Deacs fell to 8-9 overall and 1-4 in the ACC with the loss, while the Hokies improved to 15-2 overall and 4-1 in the ACC.

Brandon Childress led all scorers with 28 points, matching his career high. He was the only Demon Deacon to score in double figures. Isaiah Mucius scored eight points while Jaylen Hoard had seven points to go with a game-high seven rebounds.

The game remained back-and-forth over the first eight minutes before a 9-1 Hokie run gave them an eight-point lead. They took a 10-point lead into the break at 42-32. Childress had 10 first-half points to lead the Deacs.

In the second half, an 11-0 Hokie run pushed the lead to 20 points midway through the period. The Deacs battled back and cut the lead in half, trailing 73-63 with 5:00 to play. That was as close as Wake Forest would get as the Hokies completed the 87-71 victory.

The Demon Deacons conclude their two-game trip to the Commonwealth of Virginia with Tuesday's visit to No. 4 Virginia. Game time is 9:00 p.m. and the game will air on the ACC Regional Sports Networks (FS Carolinas).
