Wake Forest Head Coach Danny Manning

Opening Statement...

"I thought tonight we came out and did some pretty good things in that first half to give us a chance to go into halftime with a nice lead. This is a very difficult team to prepare for because of their style of offense. They run a lot of backdoor cuts, a lot of Princeton actions and we tried to take away a lot of them but they're good passers and they make really hard cuts. You'll get beat on them from time to time. I thought for the most part we did a pretty good job of defending those actions."

On if he saw what he needed to see before ACC play begins…

"I thought we did some good things in certain categories. I thought this was the best, in terms of numbers, that we've rebounded the basketball. It gave us a chance to get some second chance opportunity points with 15 – we only gave up three – so that's always a positive. Points in the paint – I thought we did a good job working the ball inside. Defensively, have to be better with active hands to try and come up with some deflections and more turnovers than the nine that we forced. I thought this was one of the better games in terms of getting the ball from one side of the court to the other side, being able to attack the paint and things to that nature. I thought our bigs did a good job of adding a presence in the paint as well. Jaylen has a terrific game, a double-double for us and he did some really good things in terms of getting us going. I thought we had contributions from a lot of different guys."

On if the guys on the team have a sense for what's to come in ACC play with just three guys on the roster with significant minutes in such games…

"No. How could you? You know what I mean? You haven't been there. You don't know what it's like to be married until you're married. Living together is different. We talk about it. The guys who have been here talk about their experiences too. It's going to be trial by fire; we knew that regardless of how the non-conference played out."

Cornell Head Coach Brian Earl

On matching up with an athlete like Jaylen Hoard

"It's a challenge for teams that don't have the athletes that maybe they have and I thought we were a little dazed in the first half. I don't know if it was their athleticism or that we just couldn't score. We would have liked to have put up a better fight. He [Jaylen Hoard] was a big part of [their success] and there is a lot that we need to fix."

On if there was anything that Wake Forest did that they did not expect…

"They were pretty crisp offensively and got us moving. They sort of jammed it down our throats, which we thought was potentially a problem. I think for the most part, in the first half, you can't sustain not being able to put the ball in the basket. That was a challenge for us. When we're playing well, we give teams a run for their money, the ball goes in a bit – which you saw a bit with open layups and open threes – but we couldn't overcome [the first half]."
