Deacs Land Four on All-ACC Academic Football Team

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest had four members of the 2018 football team selected to the All-ACC Academic team that was announced today (January 30).
The four include safety Luke Masterson, running back Cade Carney, and wide receivers Alex Bachman and Sage Surratt.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Masterson, a rising redshirt junior from Naples, Fla. (Gulf Coast) received his second consecutive selection to the All-ACC Academic team. Masterson, a natural safety, started six games at inside linebacker in 2018 and finished seventh on the team with 52 tackles.
Carney, a rising senior running back from Advance, N.C. (Davidson Day) became Wake Forest's first 1,000-yard rusher in 15 years as he compiled 1,005 yards on the ground along with eight touchdowns. Carney, an All-ACC Academic selection in 2016, led the Deacons in rushing in 2018 including a career-best 223 yards in the regular season finale at Duke.
Bachman, a December graduate of Wake Forest, earned his first appearance on the All-ACC Academic team. The Westlake Village, Ca. (Oaks Christian) native caught 37 passes for 541 yards and was second on the club with six touchdown catches. He started 12 times during the 2018 season and set a career-high with 171 yards receiving in the Birmingham Bowl victory over Memphis.
Surratt, a rising redshirt sophomore from Lincolnton, N.C. (Lincolnton), was named to the All-ACC Academic team for the first time. Surratt was second on the club with 41 receptions for 581 yards. He had four touchdown receptions while starting nine games.
