Dunshee to Represent USA Baseball at Premier12 for Olympic Qualifying

Wake Forest alum Parker Dunshee is one of 28 players on the roster for the tournament to be held in Mexico.
DURHAM, N.C. -- Wake Forest Baseball alum Parker Dunshee was named to USA Baseball's Premier12 roster, the organization announced on Thursday morning.
The 28-man roster is made up of 15 pitchers and 13 position players currently not on an MLB 40-man roster. The U.S. will begin the WBSC Premier12 in Guadalajara, Mexico, from November 2-4 as a member of Group A with the Dominican Republic, Mexico and the Netherlands. The top two nations from Group A will advance to the Super Round in Tokyo from November 11-16.
The tournament is the first opportunity for Team USA to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
"We couldn't be prouder for Parker to earn this opportunity to represent his country on the world stage," head coach Tom Walter said. "The way he competes on the mound, combined with the way he carries himself on the field and in the clubhouse, I can't think of anyone more deserving. It will be an experience of a lifetime for Parker and his Deacon family will certainly be watching from afar."
Dunshee earns his first National Team roster spot following a successful season on the mound. Spending the majority of the year in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League with the Oakland A's AAA affiliate, the Las Vegas Aviators, Dunshee finished with a 6-7 record and 4.36 ERA. He limited opponents to 112 hits in 130.0 innings, striking out 124.
He pitched at Wake Forest for four seasons, finishing his career with a 28-10 record and 3.20 ERA, breaking the program strikeout record with 330 in his career. He led the Deacs to an NCAA Regional with a 10-5 record in 2016, and served as the staff ace as he finished 2017 with a 9-1 record, piggybacking Wake Forest to an NCAA Super Regional, where he tossed 8.0 innings of one-run ball against eventual national champion Florida.
Dunshee returned to Wake Forest after being drafted in the 14th round in 2016, and was a seventh-round pick in 2017. Through three pro seasons, he is 20-13 with a 2.94 ERA.

Four-time World Series champion Joe Girardi is the manager of the team, and he'll be joined by a coaching staff made up of Scott Brosius, Roly de Armas, Phil Plantier, Bryan Price, Willie Randolph and Ernie Young.
Other members of the team include Winston-Salem Dash alumni Andrew Vaughn and Tyler Johnson, as well as top-100 prospects Jo Adell, Drew Waters, Alec Bohm, Xavier Edwards, Spencer Howard and Daulton Varsho.
The team will train in Surprise, Arizona, from October 21-28 at the Kansas City Royals Spring Training facility before traveling to Mexico.
