Deacs Lead After First Round of Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The top-ranked Wake Forest women's golf team took the lead during the opening day of play at the Tar Heel Invitational. The Demon Deacons shot 6-under during Friday's round at Finley Golf Course and hold a one-shot lead after 18 holes.
Wake Forest is one-shot ahead of Alabama and Kentucky, who both shot 5-under during the first round. Host North Carolina and Ohio State are tied for fourth at 4-under.
"We had a very good first round and finished the day strong," said head coach Kim Lewellen. "It is always important to open a tournament with a good first round and we did that today. We now have to continue that throughout the weekend."
Siyun Liu led the Demon Deacons with a 3-under round of 69, tied for second on the individual leaderboard. Rachel Kuehn is also in the individual top-10 after the opening day, T-6th at 2-under.
Emilia Migliaccio was 1-under and Lauren Walsh was at even par to round out the four scorers for the Deacons. Letizia Bagnoli completed the lineup with 2-over round, while Vanessa Knecht shot even par while competing as an individual.
The Tar Heel Invitational continues Saturday and concludes Sunday at UNC's Finley Golf Course.
