CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The top-ranked Wake Forest women's golf team concluded play Sunday at the Tar Heel Invitational with the tournament's third round. The Demon Deacons shot 7-over during the final round at Finley Golf Course and finished in fifth place at 7-under for the event.
Michigan State won the event at 12-under, one shot ahead of Alabama at 11-under. Ohio State and Duke tied for third place at 9-under, two shots ahead of the Demon Deacons.
"We didn't play our best today but this round was a good learning experience," said head coach Kim Lewellen. "We need to continue to learn and improve with each round. It is still early in the season and I know our best golf is still ahead of us."
Emilia Migliaccio was the Deacons' top finisher at the event, finishing T-6th at 4-under after a 1-over final round 73. Rachel Kuehn was the Deacs' low round on Sunday, shooting a 1-under 71 to finish T-13th at 2-under for the tournament.
Siyun Liu also finished T-13th at 2-under after shooting a 74 on Sunday. Letizia Bagnoli and Lauren Walsh each shot 77 during the final round to round out the Wake Forest lineup.
The Deacons return to action Oct. 28-30 with the East Lake Cup in Atlanta. The prestigious four-team event features a match play championship and airs on Golf Channel.
