Mia Raben made a career-high seven saves in the first half.

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Wake Forest stopped nine of the 10 shots on frame, but Virginia Tech snuck one through in the second half to defeat the Deacs, 1-0, at Thompson Field on Friday night.

Making her first career start, Mia Raben made seven saves in the opening half to keep the Hokies (10-3-2, 2-3-2 ACC) off the board. Meghan Kennedy played the second half and made a pair of saves.

Virginia Tech broke through in the 60th minute with a goal from Grace Sklopan, who snuck a shot inside the far post.

The Demon Deacons (5-6-4, 0-4-3 ACC) had a chance at the equalizer in the 66th minute. Sofia Rossi delivered a free kick towards the top shelf, but Hokies keeper Mandy McGlynn made the jumping save just under the crossbar. McGlynn made two saves in the shutout effort.

Wake Forest was out-shot 12-1 in the opening half but picked up the offensive attack by out-shooting Virginia Tech 5-3 in the second half.

The Deacs are back in action on Thursday at 7 p.m., returning home from a four-game road swing to take on Pitt on ACCNX.
