Deacs Climb to Fifth During Round Two at Golf Club of Georgia

ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The Wake Forest men's golf team continued play Saturday at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. The Demon Deacons shot 8-over during a rainy and windy second round and moved from seventh place to fifth place among an elite field that includes 10 of the top 30 teams in the nation.

Duke holds the 36-hole lead at 1-under and is the only team under par for the event. Texas A&M is second at 2-over, followed by UCLA at 4-over, Pepperdine at 7-over and the Demon Deacons at 9-over.

Alex Fitzpatrick was the only Demon Deacon in red numbers on Saturday, shooting a 2-under 70. He is T-19th at 2-over for the tournament. Mark Power is the top Wake Forest player on the individual leaderboard, T-7th at 1-under after a second round 75.

"In my 23 years of coaching, those were the worst conditions that I ever can remember playing in," said head coach Jerry Haas. "It rained and the wind gusted all day long. We battled throughout the day and put ourselves in good shape headed into the final round when the conditions should be better."

Eugenio Chacarra shot 74 and Parker Gillam and Marco Steyn each shot 77 to round out the Wake Forest lineup on Saturday.

The Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate concludes Sunday.
