OXFORD, Ohio- Wake Forest field hockey jumped out to a quick start to pick up a 2-0 win over Miami (Ohio) in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.
The Deacons (5-6) put their first point on the board as junior Elisha Evans scored her first goal of the season on a penalty corner rebound just 41 seconds into the game. Just three minutes later, the Deacons were awarded another corner opportunity and Anne Van Hoof fired a missile with assists from Alexis Grippo and Meike Lanckohr to take a 2-0 advantage.
Both defenses battled for the remainder of the game as neither side could find the back of the net. The Deacs took 13 shots, putting eight on target, but Miami keeper Isabelle Perese made six saves to prevent Wake from adding to its lead.
Wake Forest held a 13-5 shot advantage, taking five shots in both the first and fourth quarters. Miami only managed to get two shots on target.
In the net for Wake, senior Isla Bint earned her third shut out of the season, making two saves. Bint improves to 5-6 on the season.
Wake returns to action on Friday night, facing Duke at 6 p.m., on the road.
