The Demon Deacons closed out the regular season with the victory behind two Calvin Harris goals.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- No. 7 Wake Forest closed out the regular season with a 3-1 victory over No. 25 Louisville at Lynn Stadium on Friday night.
Calvin Harris scored twice to lead the Demon Deacons (13-3-1, 6-2-0 ACC) over the Cardinals (8-6-2, 3-4-1 ACC). Aristotle Zarris added a goal and Machop Chol dished out a pair of assists.
"This was a great road win in the hardest conference in the country," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "When we played our game ad moved the ball and closed up outlets, I thought we performed very well. Now our focus turns to trying to learn from this game and prepare for the conference tournament."
Wake Forest has a bye in the first round of the ACC Championship, earning the No. 3 seed. The Deacs will play the winner of sixth-seeded Louisville and 11th-seeded Virginia Tech on Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. on the ACC Network.
Harris scored twice in the opening 25 minutes. His first goal came in the 18th minute, as he dribbled around a defender and snuck a shot inside the far post.
He netted what proved to be the game-winner in the 23rd minute. This time he beat the keeper near post on a one-timer, finishing off a cross from Chol.
Louisville got on the board in the 36th minute. Louka Masset scored a back-heel goal to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Zarris closed out the scoring in the 52nd minute, beating the keeper from close range after passes from Chol and Alistair Johnston.
Dominic Peters made the start in goal for Wake Forest and recorded one save in the winning effort. The Deacs were out-shot, 10-8, but Wake Forest put five on target compared to two for the Cardinals.
