2/13/2019 9:01:00 PM | Men's Basketball

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Despite hot shooting from three, Wake Forest (9-14, 2-9 ACC) suffered an 88-66 loss to No. 17 Florida State on the road on Wednesday night.

Chaundee Brown led the effort for the Deacons with 20 points. Brandon Childress added 11 points and four assists, while Jaylen Hoard grabbed a team-high six rebounds. The Deacs hit 11 threes in the game, tied for the most threes in a game this season, led by Childress and Brown with three each.

Florida State (19-5, 7-4 ACC) opened the game on a 5-0 run, but the Deacs rallied back as both teams traded baskets in the first half. Childress put the Deacs on the board with a long two and Brown gave the Deacs their first lead of the night with a corner three to get the momentum rolling for Wake Forest.

Back-to-back threes from Hoard and Johnson gave the Deacs a 15-10 lead. The Noles answered back with another 5-0 run to knot the game up at 15-15 through the first nine minutes.

Sharone Wright, Jr. connected on another long ball for Wake and Childress followed with his first three of the night as Wake Forest took a 23-18 lead. Florida State regained control with back-to-back triples. Isaiah Mucius drained the Deacons' sixth three of the game with just under four minutes remaining in the half, but FSU hit five of seven down the stretch taking a 38-31 lead into halftime.

Both teams continued the hot shooting from behind the arc as Florida State opened the second half with a three, but Childress answered back with one of his own to cut the Noles' lead to seven. However, Florida State pulled away in the second half sparked by a 6-0 run to put the Noles up 12, forcing Wake Forest to call a timeout with 14:15 on the clock.

The Seminoles shot 65 percent in the second frame. Wake Forest shot 44 percent from three in the game, its highest clip since shooting 47 percent in its win over Davidson on Dec. 17. The Deacons struggled on the glass, as Florida State posted a plus-16 rebounding advantage.

The Deacons return to the LJVM on Saturday (Feb. 16) for a noon matchup against No. 8 North Carolina. During halftime, the 2019 Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame class will be inducted.
