Wake Forest Head Coach Danny Manning
Opening Statement:
"This is certainly not the outcome that we wanted nor desired, without question. We came out and didn't do a lot of things well. Carolina came out making shots and rebounding the ball and put us in a tough spot in terms of how they played and how we didn't play in the way we needed to play. From there it is kind of a snowball. We had some guys come out and a couple shots didn't go down for us early, we had some guys pressing… trying to make something happen, which I understand. But we have to do a better job at realizing at what moment that we're in and where we're at. We have to come away with some different things, better things, especially on the offensive end and defensive end rebounding the basketball.
On if there was any point in the opening 18-0 run when he thought it wasn't their day:
"It did not end up being our day. I thought we had some opportunities to score the ball, but it just didn't go in for us. As a basketball player, you're going to miss more than you make but you can't let the effect what you do execution was on the other end of that court. And a few times that happened. They would miss a shot, they would be discouraged, upset with themselves and didn't think, next play."
On Brandon Childress going scoreless:
"It's a shooting slump. You're not gonna make them unless you shoot them. Me as a player, I think it's better you go 0-12 then 0-2 or 0-3. You gotta stay aggressive, that's the only way you're going to make the shot… is if you continue to shoot."
North Carolina Head Coach Roy Williams
Opening statement…
"Needless to say, we shot the ball very well. We were 16-of-25 from the three-point line and we made a lot of shots early. Offensively we just put the ball in the hands of the guy that was making all of the shots and Cam [Johnson] made a bunch of them. I did not like all of our turnovers in the first half. We led in turnovers and seven or eight of them were just silly. We caught Wake Forest on a good day for us and a bad day for them."
On if he was pleased with his team's approach to today's game…
"Our job is to try to get better and that's what we were focused on doing. We haven't talked about the other game yet, I still haven't said anything. We treated this game just like every other game. Before we played Virginia, we talked about Wake Forest. When we play Wake Forest, we talk about playing the next game. That's the way we do it all the time so there is no change for us."
On North Carolina's defensive performance…
"Wake Forest had some wide-open shots that they really missed. I think it was a disappointing half in that they had more offensive rebounds than we did but we made a bunch of shots so there weren't many offensive rebounds to get. The rebound margin was 39-36 and I would have liked to have seen more than that but again we made a bunch of shots."
