Deacs Sweep ACC Weekly Awards

Bar Botzer was the Player of the Week while Alan Gadjiev and Borna Gojo pick up Doubles Team of the Week honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's tennis team swept the ACC's weekly tennis awards as the league announced its Player and Doubles Team of the Week on Wednesday (Feb. 20). Sophomore Bar Botzer was named the Player of the Week while the tandem of Alan Gadjiev and Borna Gojo were tabbed as the Doubles Team of the Week.
Botzer, a native of Tel Aviv, Israel, led the Deacs to a 3-1 record and a runner-up finish at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship this past weekend in Chicago, with all four teams appearing in the top-12 of the national team rankings. Individually, Botzer posted a perfect 4-0 singles record, with three of his wins coming against ranked opponents.
In the championship match, Botzer, who entered the tournament ranked 21st nationally, defeated 12th-ranked Kyle Seelig of Ohio State in straight sets. Prior to his win over Seelig, Botzer also defeated No. 32 Adam Ambrozy of Columbia, No. 36 Josh Peck of North Carolina and UCLA's Patrick Zahraj.
Gojo and Gadjiev pick up their first ACC accolade as doubles partners after winning a pair of doubles matches in the semifinals and championship match of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The tandem first defeated Benjamin Sigouin and Brian Cernoch of North Carolina in the semis before toping JJ Wolf and Martin Joyce of Ohio State in the finals. The pair of wins capped a perfect weekend for Gadjiev, who also picked up a two doubles victories with Julian Zlobinsky.
Wake Forest, ranked No. 2 in the latest ITA rankings, return to action on Thursday, Feb. 28, at home against Virginia Tech in the Deacs' ACC opener. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
