Miami head coach Jim Larranaga:
On the game:
"I thought we played a great game for 35 minutes, and just rushed like crazy in the last 4 minutes. Very much out of character for us and very disappointing to lose a game that we lead the last 10 minutes of the first half and basically the first 19 minutes of the second half. But credit goes to them for sticking with it and make some good defensive plays at the end."
On the last shot of the game:
"We wanted the team to attack much earlier in case we didn't score, and have a chance to get a foul or maybe an offensive rebound...It wasn't Chris' last shot that cost us the game, it was the lack rushing and the lack of poise that we should from about 3 minutes 28 seconds left to go. We made our free-throws, we went 1 for 2 on the last one but we were 2 for 2, 2 for 2, 2 for 2, and I think we made 24/29 from the foul line 82%. At that point we made our free-throws on a pretty regular basis, but the turnovers, the rushed passes, the hurry-ness that we showed, we haven't done that all year."
On difficulties coaching in the last minute:
"The problem is when there's a lot of noise in the arena the players can't hear you. I was standing on the sideline, yelling to one of the players 'timeout, timeout, timeout' with about 3 minutes to go in the game and he couldn't hear me. It's very hard to communicate from the sideline trying to do hand signals but if the player is not looking directly at you, which often times he shouldn't, I'm very much against the rule that doesn't allow coaches to call timeout when they seem appropriate because the referee standing right next to me heard me and he would have granted the timeout if the rules allowed. So you're being pressed and being harassed and you want the players to look over to the bench? Doesn't make any sense at all."
Wake Forest head coach Danny Manning
Opening Statement...
"I thought the biggest takeaway from this game was that our guys continued to battle and fight. There were certain situations late in the stretch where some guys made hustle plays to give us some life. We were fortunate that they missed some free throws that they normally make because they're a pretty good team from the free throw line. We had some guys make some really big shots for us down the stretch, and I'm just proud of the effort and the grit of the guys who continued to battle. Everybody that played came in and did a pretty good job for us. I'm just really happy and proud of the guys for their fight."
On the team's energy down the stretch after playing 48 hours ago...
"That's been our schedule a few time throughout the year with a quick turnaround. I would want to give us more practice time leading up into any game opposed to a quick turn around. Our guys locked in at the end of the game and came up with a great win for us."
On the composure shown by Brandon Childress late in the game after taking a bad shot...
"We always talk about the next play in our program. He took that shot, and it obviously didn't go in, but he got into the next-play mode and did some really good things from that point forward."
On what Wake Forest did to speed up Miami's play in the final five minutes of the game...
"We picked up full court and tried to take the ball out of (Chris) Lykes' hands, which is easier said than done. We were just trying to scramble around and make them uncomfortable."
