Deacs Post Wire-to-Wire Victory at Valspar Collegiate

PALM CITY, Fla. – The Wake Forest men's golf team captured its third victory of the season with a win at the Valspar Collegiate. The Deacs finished the event at 25-under after shooting 14-under and 5-under during Monday's second and third rounds at The Floridian.
In a tournament that featured 14 of the top 35 teams nationally, including six of the top 10, the No. 6 Demon Deacons posted a six-shot win over No. 13 Auburn (19-under). No. 31 South Carolina (16-under), No. 1 Oklahoma State (14-under) and No. 3 Vanderbilt (11-under) rounded out the top five.
"It was a good team effort all around and everyone contributed to this victory," said head coach Jerry Haas. "We took on the best teams in the country in this event and to shoot 25-under and come home with a trophy will give us a lot of confidence moving forward. I am proud of these guys and their play this week."
Cameron Young led the Demon Deacons with a fourth-place finish on the individual leaderboard at 8-under after shooting rounds of 68 and 71 on Monday. Alex Fitzpatrick also had a top-10 finish, posting scores of 67 and 70 to finish at 6-under.
Eugenio Chacarra had the low final round for the Deacs with a 4-under 67 to finish the tournament at 3-under. Eric Bae finished the tournament at 4-over, while Parker Gillam was 5-over.
The win was the Deacs' third victory of the season, having also won the Steelwood Collegiate to end the fall season and the Seminole Intercollegiate to open the spring season. It was also Wake Forest's second win in three appearances at the Valspar Collegiate, having also won the title in 2017.
The Demon Deacons return to action Apr. 6-7 with the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational in Augusta, Ga.
