
Demon Deacons Fall to Syracuse

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest basketball (11-17, 4-12 ACC) dropped a home contest to Syracuse, 79-54 on Saturday afternoon.
Chaundee Brown put up a team-high 14 points and Sunday Okeke posted seven rebounds. Freshman Isaiah Mucius had his first double-figure ACC game with 10 points.
The first 10 minutes of the game featured five lead changes as both teams traded baskets. Syracuse (19-10, 10-6 ACC) pulled away with a 26-17 lead with 9:33 on the clock, but the Deacons rallied back hitting five of seven from the field, and a Childress three put Wake within six.
A 6-0 run from the Orange pushed Syracuse's lead to 14, forcing Wake Forest to call a timeout. The Cuse took advantage of five late turnovers in the half by the Deacons, extending its lead 34-22 with just under four minutes to play in the opening half. Torry Johnson connected on a three with 1:20 on the clock to cut the lead to eight as Syracuse as took a 38-30 advantage into the break.
Sharone Wright opened the second half with a triple and picked up a steal on the other end. He finished the play with a fast break layup as Wake Forest battled back within five, 40-35.
The Syracuse offense exploded on a 21-2 run. Johnson ended the run with his second three of the game with 5:30 remaining, but the Orange finished with the 79-54 victory in the LJVM.
The Deacons are back in action for their final road contest of the season against Duke on Tuesday (March 5). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN.
