UWHARRIE POINT, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's golf team moved up to third place during the final round of the ACC Championship at Old North State Club. The Demon Deacons shot 9-under on Saturday, tied for the low round of the day, to finish at 19-under par.

After getting off to slow start on Thursday, in 11th place at 2-over after the first round, the Demon Deacons shot 21-under par over the final two rounds to climb back to third place. Georgia Tech captured the title at 37-under, while Virginia was second at 22-under.

"I want to focus on the positives of our very good second and third rounds," said head coach Jerry Haas. "This team hasn't finished below fourth all season and has won five times. This spring they have four wins, a second and a third. I know some will judge this group on how they played this week, but I am proud of this group. They battled back from dead last at one point in the first round and almost got back to second. We are in a good place as we head to NCAAs and I know we are capable of competing with any team in the country."

Three Demon Deacons finished the tournament ranked in the top 10. Freshman Alex Fitzpatrick finished eighth in his ACC Championship debut, shooting a final round 71 to finish at 6-under. Freshman Eugenio Chacarra shot the low round of the day for the Deacs, a 4-under 68, to finish T-9th at 5-under. He tied for ninth with senior Lee Detmer, who shot a final round 70 to finish at 5-under.

Cameron Young shot a 2-under 70 on Saturday to finish the tournament at 1-under. Kengo Aoshima rounded out the lineup with a final round 73 to finish at 1-over.

The Demon Deacons will now await the announcement of the NCAA regionals. The NCAA field will be unveiled on May 1 on Golf Channel.
