
Wake Forest Climbs to Second at Myrtle Beach Regional

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. – The Wake Forest men's golf team climbed the leaderboard at the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional on Tuesday during the second round at TPC Myrtle Beach. The Demon Deacons shot 7-under, tied for low round of the day, to finish the day at 9-under, tied for second place.
The top five finishers at the 54-hole event will advance to the NCAA Championships, held May 24-29 in Fayetteville, Ark. Ohio State, who also shot 7-under on Tuesday, is the second-round leader at 11-under. Wake Forest is tied with Illinois for second place at 9-under, while UNLV is at 4-under and Cal is at 2-under to round out the top five.
Freshman Eugenio Chacarra led the Deacs on Tuesday, shooting a 5-under 67 to tie for the low round of the day. He had seven birdies, including five on the back nine, while only carding two bogeys. He is tied for fourth place on the individual leaderboard at 5-under for the tournament.
Cameron Young carded a 2-under 70 for the second consecutive day to finish the day tied for seventh place at 4-under. Eric Bae is also in the top 10 at 3-under after a second round 69. Alex Fitzpatrick rounded out the scoring four for the Deacs with a second round 75, while Lee Detmer shot 78.
"We played better today and had some nice things happen at the end, so we can build on that," said head coach Jerry Haas. "We need all five guys tomorrow and hopefully our depth will once again come through for us. We have to go out tomorrow with the mindset of wanting to win this tournament, not just try and stay in the top five.
