Heppenstall, Facioni, Florent, Halvorsen and Schulz earn ACC academic honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Robert Heppenstall, Zach Facioni, Alexandria Florent, Sam Halvorsen and Johanna Schulz of the Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams have been named to the All-ACC Indoor Track and Field Academic Team, the conference announced Thursday (May 2).
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team. Every member of the 2018-19 All-ACC Indoor Track and Field Academic Teams also earned All-America and/or All-ACC honors during the most recent season.
Facioni, a freshman from Sydney, Australia is receiving ACC academic honors for the first time in his career. He earned second team All-ACC in two events at the conference indoor championships in February. He competed in three regular season indoor meets, including his first collegiate track victory in the men's 3k at the Clemson Bob Pollock Invitational.
Heppenstall, a communications major, won his second career ACC title in the men's 800m at the championship meet in Blacksburg, Va. The Hamilton, Ontario native went on to finish third in the 800m at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championship for his seventh overall All-American honor. This is the fifth time the junior has been honored by the conference for his academic achievements after being named to the All-ACC Academic Outdoor Team in 2016, 2017 and to the Indoor team in both 2017 and 2018.
A Santa Clarita, California native and sociology major, Florent finished in the top-three in five indoor meets she competed in, including a victory in the high jump at the Wake Forest Invitational in January. She claimed second team All-ACC status at the conference indoor championships with a fourth-place finish. This is her second time being honored by the conference for academic achievements.
Schulz, a graduate student from Neumunster, Germany impressed in her first year with the Demon Deacons. Her third-place finish in the women's mile at the indoor championships was enough for first team All-ACC honors. She competed in four regular season indoor meets with a win in the 800m at the Dick Taylor Carolina Cup on January 12.
Halvorsen, a 2018 All-ACC Academic Team selection, competed in two regular season indoor events for the Deacs. She earned second team All-ACC honors with a sixth-place finish in the women's 5k at the 2019 ACC Indoor Championships.
The Demon Deacons will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia for a second time this year to compete in the 2019 ACC Outdoor Championships. The meet will be held May 9-11 at Lannigan Field at the University of Virginia.
