The Wolfpack scored four runs in the ninth to sneak past the Deacs.
DURHAM, N.C. -- No. 13 NC State scored four ninth-inning runs to edge Wake Forest in pool play of the ACC Championship, 6-5, at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Thursday night.
The Wolfpack (42-15) clinched the Pool C title and will advance into the semifinals on Saturday, while the Demon Deacons (31-26) are eliminated and will now await Monday's NCAA Selection Show.
Wake Forest didn't allow an earned run until the ninth. Jared Shuster (3.2 innings), Bobby Hearn (1.1), and Tyler Witt (2.0) each had scoreless outings, while a pair of errors caused Antonio Menendez (1.0) to allow a pair of unearned runs in the seventh.
The Deacs scored four runs in the second inning on a DJ Poteet two-run single, a throwing error, and a Michael Turconi sac fly.
After the unearned runs in the top of the seventh, the Deacs got one back in the bottom of the inning on a Michael Ludowig bases-loaded walk.
NC State's Brad Debo hit a two-run single to cut the deficit to 5-4, then Terrell Tatum knocked in two on an infield single. The second runner, originally called out, was ruled safe after a video review.
Bobby Seymour led off the bottom of the ninth with a double off the wall, but he was stranded at third as the next three Deacs were retired.
