Good Morning Demon Deacon Nation!

Time has flown by since my last From The Quad update and I have lots to share with you today.  We are now a week into the second session of summer school here on the Reynolda Campus and it is fun to see our student-athletes coming and going to classes, work-out sessions and off campus internships while university staff continues their hard work preparing for Wake Forest's 186th year!

Led by our Senior Associate AD Jane Caldwell, our Student-Athlete Services unit works hard to orient new Demon Deacon student-athletes and their families as they arrive on campus. I had the honor of welcoming a group of our incoming freshmen student-athletes and their families as part of this program last Sunday. I feel a special kinship with these parents since Mary Lawrence and I have a college freshman heading off to school ourselves.

Today we drive to Charlotte for the annual ACC Football Kickoff. Coach Clawson will be accompanied by seniors Cade Carney and Justin Strnad. Follow along @WakeFB Wednesday to see Coach and the players throughout the day. Can you believe Opening Night is just 45 days away?

I'm A Fan - Utah State Sales Going Strong!
Kudos to our Fan Experience staffers who've been pounding the pavement spreading the word about the upcoming Demon Deacon football season and our Opening Night game vs. Utah State on Friday, August 30, 8 p.m. at BB&T Field. More than 7,000 hangers have been placed on door knobs and 1,250 I'm A Fan yard signs distributed.

Sales for the Utah State game are almost 2,000 tickets ahead of a typical pace for our home opener and I am looking forward to a packed BB&T Field on August 30. Our Opening Night special, with four tickets and a parking pass is still available for just $69, but the price does go up again on July 20 so encourage your friends and neighbors who don't already have tickets to act now. Click here for more ticket information. Less than 20 season packages remain for both Deacon Hill and the Touchdown Club - these will be sold out soon!

Academic Accolades Continue
Congratulations are in order for the 226 Wake Forest student-athletes who earned distinction on the ACC Honor Roll for achieving a 3.0 GPA both semesters this past academic year! Track & field led the way with 51 male and female student-athletes followed by football with 47 making the Honor Roll; click here to read more about these student-athletes and their awards. We are also proud of men's basketball recently receiving a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, for a 3.0 team GPA for the year, one of just 39 NCAA Division I programs and just three total in the ACC (Louisville & Notre Dame) to receive this honor.

Sutton Sports Performance Center and Shah Basketball Complex Coming Together
Following the Wake Forest Board of Trustees meeting June 28, we took Mit Shah and Ben Sutton on a hard hat tour through the Sutton Sports Performance Center and the Shah Basketball Complex. Ben, Mit, Bob McCreary and many, many others have done so much to dramatically upgrade the competitive environment for Demon Deacon student-athletes and coaches. Progress continues as last week the Christian McCreary Nutrition Zone came online in the Sutton Sports Performance Center much to the delight of our student-athletes who are already making use of the state-of-the-art operation offered by our registered dietician and nutritionist Kate Ruley. Coach Jen Hoover and our women's basketball staff moved in last week and Coach Danny Manning and his staff moved in yesterday. These moves come with big benefits for soccer too as we transform offices vacated by basketball in Manchester Athletic Center for Coach Tony da Luz and Coach Bobby Muuss, more than tripling their staff work spaces. We currently anticipate the new Shah Basketball Complex practice gym and strength center to be ready by the end of August!

Women's Soccer Leads First Week of ACC Network
The ACC Network will launch on August 22 and Wake Forest will make its debut on the network August 28 as women's soccer takes on Santa Clara at 5:00 p.m. in Spry Stadium. If you have not yet contacted your cable provider to demand the ACC Network, please do so today. The providers log all of these calls and requests, so you will make a difference...let them hear you! Visit GetACCNetwork.com to learn more and to sign up for additional information.

NBA's Hornets & 76ers Coming to LJVM Coliseum October 11
We are thrilled with yesterday's announcement that the Charlotte Hornets will host the Philadelphia 76ers in an NBA exhibition game at Joel Coliseum, Friday night, October 11!  It is our first time hosting a preseason game in over a decade and is an opportunity to see NBA stars right here in Winston-Salem. With our home football game against Louisville the next day, October 12, it's an action-packed weekend in Winston-Salem. For all of the information about this game including how to purchase tickets click here.

Thanks for your ongoing support of Wake Forest student-athletes.  Please continue to send me your thoughts, questions and suggestions to wfuad@wfu.edu and follow us on Twitter @DemonDeacons & @John_Currie.  Remember to invite your friends, neighbors and co-workers to join us for Opening Night!

Go Deacs!
