The Demon Deacons scored three first half goals and out-shot the Owls by a 26-2 margin.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- No. 23 Wake Forest controlled the game from the opening kick, scoring three times in the first half en route to a 3-0 shutout victory over Temple at Spry Stadium on Thursday night.
"I liked a lot of what I saw tonight, but not everything," head coach Tony da Luz said. "We got shut out in the second half and I'm definitely not happy about that. But to get our first shutout of the year, defensively, I thought we were rock solid."
The Demon Deacons (1-0) were dominant, out-shooting the Owls (0-1) by a 26-2 margin.
Hulda Arnarsdottir netted what proved to be the game-winner in the 12th minute off a through ball from Lily Schneider and cross by Estelle Laurier.
Then, Hayley Younginer and Shayla Smart scored their first Wake Forest goals 35 seconds apart in the 41st minute.
Younginer finished off a cross from Ashley Frank to make the score 2-0 at the 40:11 mark, followed by Smart slotting a shot past the keeper after a Madison Hammond through ball.
Transfer goalkeepers Meghan Kennedy (one save) and Mac Carmichael combined for the shutout in goal.
Wake Forest held Temple without a shot in the second half.
The Deacs are back in action on Sunday, playing host to Army West Point at 6 p.m.
