Good Afternoon Demon Deacon Nation!

You can feel the excitement in the air as the next 80 hours are going to be packed with Deacon fun, culminating with postgame fireworks at Opening Night at BB&T Field on Friday! Tomorrow at 5 p.m. in Spry Stadium, women's soccer takes on No. 19 Santa Clara, our debut live "main channel" production on the brand new ACC Network! I'll see you there!

We have a ton of game week info for you, so let's get right to the updates:

Hospitality for All at BB&T Field Equals The Best Fan Experience In North Carolina
Three straight bowl wins. The I'm a Fan grassroots campaign.  Football Ambassadors. A historic visit and performance by the award winning "Red Sea of Sound." Friday will see our largest Opening Night crowd in nearly a decade and will include many fans who are making their first visit to Wake Forest football and BB&T Field. It takes everyone working together to help new fans feel at home in BB&T Field so let's be sure we all extend a warm hand as we seek to achieve our goal of providing the Best Fan Experience in North Carolina and a loud home field advantage for the Demon Deacons! Speaking of hospitality, I had the privilege of participating in the processional for last week's new student convocation in Wait Chapel. President Hatch gave a wonderful address, which he recounted in his letter to the campus community yesterday. I encourage you to read it here as he talks about the true meaning of the hospitality Wake Forest aspires to represent.

Class of '23 Ready to Wake the Demons and Open The Gates
With a full week of classes under their belts, Wake Forest first-year students will be treated to the annual Wake the Demons party in David F. Couch Ballpark before kick-off Friday. Deacon cheerleaders and student-athletes will introduce gameday traditions, teach the fight song and then storm the field pregame to Open the Gates and form the tunnel to welcome Coach Clawson and the team onto the field for kick-off. Be in your seats early to welcome WFU's Class of 2023! And if you need to brush up on the fight song lyrics, you can find them here

I'm A Fan Zone, Big Daddy Love, Red Sea of Sound, Spirit of Old Gold and Black and More
Our Fan Experience staff has done a marvelous job of adding new fun for gameday including the new I'm A Fan Zone in front of McCreary Tower and The Deacon Statue. Click here for all the new features and gameday info.

Bob McCreary Videoboard Honoring the Class of 1961 to Feature "Real-Time" Officiating Reviews
When time is taken for official review of an officiating call, turn your attention to the Bob McCreary Video Board. Thanks to some slick cable splicing by our own James Overstreet, you'll see the exact feed that the official replay official is reviewing at that moment!

W.A.D Update: Wear Black and Gold, Attend Games & Demand the ACC Network
My column in the August issue of Gold Rush magazine mentioned a question I often get when I meet a Wake Forester for the first time, which is a simple "How can I help?" The three easy answers, regardless of one's zip code or occupation are  simple: 1) Wear Black and Gold! We have cool colors, a distinctive WF and one of the most unique mascots in the country - show 'em off! 2) Attend Games! Being there makes a difference to Wake Forest student-athletes. Set a goal to attend one more game than you did last year. 3) Demand the ACC Network! ACCN is off to a great start thanks in part to your outreach to service providers. I encourage you to double check your service today. As with any new technology roll-out there can be hiccups—my mom, for instance, realized Sunday that she needed to contact her provider, Spectrum, for a service adjustment since she was a legacy Time Warner customer. She's all set for gameday now! Visit your provider's website or getaccn.com to make sure you are game ready.

The 2018-19 Year in Review
The August Gold Rush also includes an excellent look back at a special year for Wake Forest.  You can click here for the online version of the 2018-19 Year in Review.

Check out GoDeacs.com or the Wake Forest app for all the info.

International Deacs Stacking Up Honors
Congratulations to Alex Fitzpatrick who was recently named to the Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team! He is the 21st Demon Deacon to compete in the Walker Cup and the third to represent Great Britain and Ireland.   And, women's basketball senior Alex Sharp, representing Australia, captured another Deacon Gold Medal as her team won its second-straight gold medal in the World University Games earlier this summer.

WFU Student-Athletes 'Suit Up' For Career Success
The Wake Forest News site has a great article about an essential part of a World-Class Student-Athlete Experience.  Wake Forest Athletics' Suited Up program provides student-athletes with an opportunity to be paired with a local organization for a tailored, flexible, short-term internship that fits into their busy athletics and academic schedule. Click here to read more about Suited Up and learn how your organization can help.

Thanks for reading! It's time for me to hop in the car and head to Greensboro for tonight's Deacon fan event at the Proximity Hotel. If you're in the area, join us from 5:30-7 p.m.  Remember to send me your thoughts, questions and suggestions to wfuad@wfu.edu.  I look forward to seeing you tomorrow night at Spry and on Friday at BB&T Field for Opening Night
