Demon Deacon Nation:

Good morning! Today marks the 18th anniversary of a day we will never forget; a day that changed our country forever.  At 6:00 a.m. this morning, the ROTC cadet students of  Wake Forest and Winston-Salem State and Salem College hosted the "Climb to Remember" at BB&T Field. Together with hundreds of members of the community, including student-athletes from our baseball, basketball, volleyball and field hockey teams and athletic department staff, it was an honor to stand for a moment of silence and then, together, climb 2,997 steps in memory of each life lost on that tragic day in 2001. We appreciate the "No Fear" Battalion for leading this unique and memorable tribute for the Winston-Salem community so that the heroes of 9/11 are never forgotten.

We are incredibly grateful to the men and women of our armed forces who dedicate their lives to protecting our country and enabling us to enjoy freedoms and special traditions.

Friday night we renew the oldest football rivalry in North Carolina as the Tar Heels come to BB&T Field for a 6:00 p.m. kick-off before a full national ESPN audience.  Beginning with  Wake Forest's 6-4 victory in 1888, the Deacons and Tar Heels have played 106 football games but Friday's big contest will be the first time we have met on the gridiron since 2015.

As you are likely already aware, this is a non-conference game that won't count in the ACC standings, but with both teams coming into the game undefeated, it promises to be a game to remember.  As you can see in this clip of senior captain Justin Herron, the Deacons need you in the stands at BB&T Field, wearing black! Ticket sales are moving fast so we encourage you to visit www.godeacs.com or call (336) 758-3322 right now to reserve your spot. We recommend you to use the print at home feature to save time and avoid the will call line.

"Watchtower" to Rock the Free I'm a Fan Zone Beginning at 3:00 PM Friday
If you enjoy the music of the Dave Matthews Band, you'll love Watchtower, who will hit the I'm a Fan Zone stage on the front lawn of McCreary Tower, next to the Deacon Statue, beginning at 3:00 PM.  Come early, enjoy a cold beverage, food trucks, the Lowes Foods Beer Den, games for the kids, the Deacon Walk and more fun before you head into BB&T Field for kick-off. Remember the clear bag policy and allow plenty of time for entry procedures at the gate, including metal detector screening. Click here for all the gameday fan information.

An Opening Night to Remember
The dramatic 38-35 win over Utah State was played before our largest season opening  crowd since the NC State game in 2011.  And more than 3,000 Wake Forest students scanned into the game, the most since the Notre Dame game in 2011 and the second-most in 12 years! I'd put that number of 60% of our undergraduate students up against just about any school. Earlier this week we had the opportunity to visit with a number of groups on campus to thank them for attending and encourage another big crowd this Friday night.  Click here for gameday instructions from Kappa Kappa Gamma.

US News Rankings Out - Wake Forest Checks in as the #27 National University
Of course, we're not talking about just any school! This week US News and World Report unveiled their 2019 rankings and once again Wake Forest ranks among America's elite universities. Our No. 27 was good for third among ACC schools, just ahead of Virginia (28), Georgia Tech & UNC (tied for 29). The Atlantic Coast Conference has the highest academic rating of the Power 5 conferences, and in fact, among 32 Division I conferences, only the Ivy League scores better than the Atlantic Coast Conference!

Seeking Applications for Athletic Student Leadership Council
As we build the Best Fan Experience in North Carolina, we are seeking Wake Forest students to join the Athletic Student Leadership Council.  The approximately 20 members of the Council will fully engage with the athletics department to provide ideas and initiate strategies with a Council mission of creating a best-in-class student experience at home athletic contests.  If you are a Wake Forest student who is interested in participating (or know someone who is), please click here to apply

Rocket Start For Deacon Olympic Sports
Led by our No. 1 ranked men's soccer team, the Demon Deacons are off to a great start this fall! Congratulations to women's cross country which claimed the team championship at the Virginia Tech Invitational last Friday. No. 15 field hockey picked up its first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Penn. Volleyball is off to a 6-0 start after sweeping the North Florida Tournament last weekend, and women's soccer is sitting at 5-0-1. Women's golf finished second yesterday at the Cougar Classic in Charleston. Best of luck to women's tennis as they head to Puerto Rico this week for the Puerto Rico Invitational. Don't forget to check out the latest Deac Sheet for more information on recent results and accolades as well as details about what's in store for the Deacons this coming week!

Big Games Coming to the Coliseum, Basketball Seat Selection is Underway
Our 2019-20 home schedule includes our Big Four rivals, defending national champion Virginia and the return of the Skip Prosser Classic with a December match-up against Xavier.  Men's basketball season seat selection began Monday for Deacon Club members. If you would like more information on how to participate, call (336) 758-3322.   Look for more ticket information, including packages and individual games soon.

That's it for now! Don't forget that this is the last week to purchase the Big 4 Package to see the Deacs take on in-state rivals UNC, NC State and Duke at BB&T Field. This is the first time since 1921, and the first time ever in Winston-Salem, that the Deacs have hosted all three in the same season, and the Big 4 action starts on Friday!
