No. 1 North Carolina Hands Wake Forest First Loss

The Demon Deacons fell for the first time in the scheduled non-conference game by a 4-0 score.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Wake Forest suffered its first defeat of the season at the hands of No. 1-ranked North Carolina, 4-0, at the UNC Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.
The game was scheduled as a non-conference game for the Demon Deacons (5-1-1) and Tar Heels (7-0-0), as the teams don't meet in the ACC slate this year.
After a scoreless opening 35 minutes, North Carolina scored twice in the next two minutes, with goals from Zoe Redei and Ru Mucherera.
UNC's Alessia Russo scored twice in the final 12 minutes to put the game away for the Tar Heels.
Meghan Kennedy made five saves in between the posts for the Deacs. Offensively, five different Deacs took shots, with the best chance coming when Abby McNamara had a shot sail inches over the crossbar.
Wake Forest wraps up the non-conference schedule at home against No. 25 South Florida on Sunday at 2 p.m.
