Hayley Younginer scored the equalizer for the Deacs midway through the second half.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest battled back after a slow first half to tie the game and finish with a 1-1 draw against NC State at Spry Stadium on Sunday night.
The Demon Deacons (5-3-3, 0-1-2 ACC) conceded a goal to the Wolfpack's (5-4-2, 0-1-2 ACC) Tziarra King in the first half, but fought back to tie it in the second half.
Hayley Younginer and Estelle Laurier executed a perfect give-and-go at the edge of the box, with Younginer beating the keeper to score in the 62nd minute.
"NC State was excellent in the first half. They ran us around and kept the ball really well," head coach Tony da Luz said. "We made some changes in the second half and were able to get ahold of the ball a little bit better and create some decent chances with some really good counter-attacks. I thought the goal was a fantastic goal with awesome build-up between Hulda [Arnarsdottir] and Hayley, it was fun to watch."
Mac Carmichael started between the posts and made a pair of saves in the second half.
"I'm just really proud of the team for holding on in the first half and completely responding in the second half and coming back and getting themselves back in the game," da Luz added. "To come out with a tie, given the circumstances, is a good result for us because in the first half they dominated. I'm just happy with the way they fought, the kids fought really really hard and had a great mentality tonight."
Wake Forest hits the road for four straight games, beginning with a trip to No. 22 Louisville on Oct. 3.
