The Philadelphia Phillies' manager will be featured at the Feb. 7 event.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Joe Girardi, four-time World Champion MLB player and manager and current skipper of the Phillies, will be a special guest at the 2020 Wake Forest Baseball First Pitch Banquet on Friday, February 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Snead Room at Bridger Field House.

Girardi was named the new manager of the Philadelphia Phillies in October, and he'll enter his first season with the team in 2020. There, he will lead superstars like Bryce Harper, Aaron Nola and Rhys Hoskins as Girardi will look to earn his fifth World Series ring.

He began his managerial career with the Marlins in 2006. He went 78-84 and was voted NL Manager of the Year. He succeeded Joe Torre as manager of the New York Yankees after the 2007 season and spent a decade in pinstripes, leading New York to its 27th World Series title in 2009 and a 910-710 record during his tenure.

As a player, Girardi was a catcher in the big leagues from 1989 to 2003 and had a .267 batting average and 1,100 hits with a .991 career fielding percentage. He won the World Series with the Yankees in 1996, 1998 and 1999 and was an All-Star for the Chicago Cubs in 2000.

"Joe Girardi is a world champion player, coach and human being," said head coach Tom Walter. "Throughout his career he has been the consummate professional, a wonderful teammate, a thoughtful mentor and a dedicated family man.  I look forward the hearing his message and know it will have a lasting impact on our program."

Nicknamed "Binder Joe" in New York for his use of analytics, Girardi has described himself as an analytical guy who loves math and can never have too much information. With Wake Forest baseball's emphasis on in-depth analytics as part of its player development protocol, Girardi will be able to provide the team with a unique perspective on the value of analytics in collegiate and professional baseball.

Tickets for the 2020 Wake Forest Baseball First Pitch Dinner are $125 per person or $1,000 for a table of 10 people. Table purchases also include two Joe Girardi autographed baseballs and two passes for a pre-dinner VIP reception with Girardi. Every ticket purchase also comes with a complimentary Wake Forest Baseball season pass, valued at $45 (table purchases come with 10 season passes, valued at $450).

In addition to Girardi, Walter and members of the Wake Forest baseball team will be special guests.

The evening will also be highlighted by both a silent and live auction featuring autographed jerseys, memorabilia, travel opportunities, and much more.

Proceeds from the auctions and event will benefit the Wake Forest Baseball program.
