CLEMSON, S.C. – Wake Forest's Aleeya Hutchins and Joaquin Martinez De Pinillos each claimed first place on Saturday as the Demon Deacons wrapped up the Bob Pollock Clemson Invitational at the Clemson University Indoor Complex.
"I thought today was another step in the right direction for our team," said Wake Forest head coach John Hayes. "We certainly improved over what we did a week ago. The key now is to go back and work hard over the next four weeks to prepare for the ACC Championships."
Notre Dame will host the ACC Championships on February 27-29 at the Loftus Sports Center.
Over the two days, Wake Forest claimed six first place finishes and six seconds.
On Saturday, Hutchins took first in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:10.00, just a half-second off the ACC Championship qualifying mark. The freshman ran the 800m leg of the women's distance medley relay team that took first place on Friday.
Joaquin Martinez De Pinillos won the men's 3,000 meters on Saturday in 8:29.31, finishing more than two seconds in front of his nearest competitor.
Tony Jones tied his own school record in the high jump, clearing 2.10 meters and matching his mark from the JDL Early Bird back in December. The Wake Forest record had been 2.06 meters set by Matt Benson in 1993.
