Redshirt freshman Kaitlyn Parks made nine saves in her first collegiate start to shut out No. 14 Notre Dame on the road.
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Wake Forest redshirt freshman Kaitlyn Parks was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Making her first career start at No. 14 Notre Dame on Thursday, Parks recorded nine saves en route to the shutout in a 1-0 victory.
Six of those nine saves came in the second half, as she and the Demon Deacon defense faced 18 total shots.
"Kaitlyn was a crucial part of our win against the Irish," head coach Tony da Luz said. "I'm proud of her for battling back from an injury last year and continuing to work hard all fall, and we were glad to see that work pay off."
The Upper Marlboro, Maryland native made her collegiate debut against Duke in the season-opener, making a pair of saves in that game.
Parks is the first Deacon to receive ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors since Nonie Frishette did so in September 2018.
Wake Forest is off until Oct. 29, when the Deacs host Virginia Tech for the annual pink game to raise money to fight breast cancer. That will be followed by Senior Day on Sunday, Nov. 1.
