The Matchup 

  • The Demon Deacons will travel to Durham, N.C., to take on the Blue Devils in an ACC South Region clash on Friday night. 

  • The match will start at 6 p.m. and be televised on the ACC Network. 

  • Wake Forest, ranked No. 2 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll, is coming off a thrilling 1-0 overtime victory over then-No. 3 North Carolina on Sunday night. 

  • Duke has taken two ACC contests this year, both against NC State. 

  • The matchup will be the 57th all-time between the two North Carolina schools. 

  • The Demon Deacons enter the match with an overall record of 16-23-8 against the Blue Devils. 

  • This is the first meeting between the two schools since 2018, when the Demon Deacons scored a 4-2 victory at Spry Stadium. 

  • Under head coach Bobby Muuss, the Demon Deacons are 2-0-0 against the Blue Devils. 

  • Wake Forest has not lost to Duke since the 2011 season. 

Last Time Out

  • The Demon Deacons hosted No. 3 North Carolina in their annual Genna Wiley Memorial, where they prevailed with a 1-0 overtime victory. 

  • Locked in a close battle throughout the first 90 minutes, neither team was able to find the back of the net in regulation. 

  • The game-winning goal came in the 97th minute from junior Kyle Holcomb, as he took a beautiful cross from sophomore Omar Hernandez

  • Holcomb's score marked the first time the Tar Heels had conceded all season.

  • Holcomb moved into a tie for the most goals in the ACC so far this season (four) with his strike against North Carolina. 

  • Junior Isaiah Parente is tied for the second-most assists (four) in the conference so far this season as well. 

  • Senior Machop Chol currently leads the ACC in shots on goal (eight). 

  • Redshirt junior goalkeeper Andrew Pannenberg (.892) ranks third in the ACC in goals against average. 

Scouting the Blue Devils

  • Duke enters the matchup with a 2-3-0 overall record and a 2-2-0 record in ACC play. 

  • The Blue Devils opened their season with a tough 4-2 loss at the hands of current No. 4 Kentucky. 

  • In its last game out, Duke visited Clemson as the Blue Devils suffered a 2-1 double overtime defeat.

  • Duke has been outscored 9-7 by their opponents through 2020 so far. 

  • The Blue Devils' last victory came on Oct. 9 when they defeated NC State 3-1.

  • The Demon Deacons return to Spry Stadium next weekend to host Clemson in the home finale. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
