Deacs Close Fall Season by Beating Pitt, 1-0

Sofia Rossi scored the game-winning goal in the second half on Senior Day.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest closed out its fall season by shutting out Pitt, 1-0, at Spry Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Demon Deacons (3-5-1, 3-4-1 ACC) honored the graduating seniors before the game, and each played a key role in the win over the Panthers (9-5-0, 3-5-0 ACC).
However, Virginia Tech defeated Boston College to clinch the No. 8 seed in the upcoming ACC Championship, eliminating Wake Forest from postseason contention.
Sofia Rossi, a redshirt junior who entered Wake with this graduating class, scored the game-winning goal in the 65th minute by dribbling through the Pitt defense and beating the keeper in between her legs.
Seniors Hannah Betfort and Ryanne Brown anchored a back line which shut out the top-scoring offense in the country. Abby McNamara was involved in the attack all game, having one shot saved and another miss just wide of goal.
"I'm happy for our seniors to go out with a win, they were the ones who carried us all game," head coach Tony da Luz said. "The whole team responded well from Thursday, defended well as a team and came through with a goal when we needed it."
Kaitlyn Parks was strong in goal, stopping all five shots on goal she faced to earn the shutout.
