
Wake Forest Opens Spring at Tennessee

Wake Forest will compete in the first of six spring matches on Saturday night, facing Tennessee.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- More than three months after the completion of the fall slate of the 2020-21 season, Wake Forest will begin the spring season on Saturday night with a trip to Tennessee.
This is the first of six non-conference matchups for the Demon Deacons. In the fall, Wake Forest ended the season with a shutout win over Pitt.
Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the match will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.

- Wake Forest will be making it's 2021 debut, as the Demon Deacons will be playing a six-match non-conference schedule.
- Tennessee is winners of three-straight to open the spring semester. The Vols have won 22-straight at home over non-conference opponents.
- This will mark the sixth all-time meeting between the two schools, as Tennessee holds a 4-0-1 advantage in the series.
- The Deacs recorded a double-overtime tie in the last meeting 0-0 on Aug. 23, 2018.
- The Demon Deacons closed the fall out with a 1-0 win over Pitt on Nov. 1, 2020.
- The victory pushed Wake Forest's overall record this season to 3-5-1.
- Sofia Rossi, a redshirt junior, scored the game-winning goal in the 65th minute.
- Seniors Hannah Betfort and Ryanne Brown anchored a back line which shut out the top-scoring offense in the country.
- Leading goal scorer Sophie Faircloth tallied three goals in the fall and was voted to the ACC All-Freshman Team.
- During the winter, Hannah Betfort was drafted to the Portland Thorns FC in the fourth round for the 37th pick of the NWSL Draft. Six Deacs have been drafted overall.
- UT has begun the 2021 campaign hot, claiming three-straight victories with a +15-goal differential.
- Jaida Thomas leads the Vols with seven goals and was named SEC Freshman of the Week for the third time this year.
- During the 2020 season, Tennessee finished with an overall mark of 4-4-1 while finishing the SEC slate at 4-3-1. The Vols lost in the first round of the SEC tournament to Vanderbilt, 4-2.
- Wake Forest will hit the road to take on in-state foe, NC State on March 20th.
