Wake Forest Opens Spring at Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- More than three months after the completion of the fall slate of the 2020-21 season, Wake Forest will begin the spring season on Saturday night with a trip to Tennessee.

This is the first of six non-conference matchups for the Demon Deacons. In the fall, Wake Forest ended the season with a shutout win over Pitt.

Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the match will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.

The Matchup

Wake Forest will be making it's 2021 debut, as the Demon Deacons will be playing a six-match non-conference schedule.
Tennessee is winners of three-straight to open the spring semester. The Vols have won 22-straight at home over non-conference opponents.
This will mark the sixth all-time meeting between the two schools, as Tennessee holds a 4-0-1 advantage in the series.
The Deacs recorded a double-overtime tie in the last meeting 0-0 on Aug. 23, 2018.

Last Time Out

The Demon Deacons closed the fall out with a 1-0 win over Pitt on Nov. 1, 2020.
The victory pushed Wake Forest's overall record this season to 3-5-1.
Sofia Rossi, a redshirt junior, scored the game-winning goal in the 65th minute.
Seniors Hannah Betfort and Ryanne Brown anchored a back line which shut out the top-scoring offense in the country.

Quick Hits

Leading goal scorer Sophie Faircloth tallied three goals in the fall and was voted to the ACC All-Freshman Team.
During the winter, Hannah Betfort was drafted to the Portland Thorns FC in the fourth round for the 37th pick of the NWSL Draft. Six Deacs have been drafted overall.

Scouting the Volunteers

UT has begun the 2021 campaign hot, claiming three-straight victories with a +15-goal differential.
Jaida Thomas leads the Vols with seven goals and was named SEC Freshman of the Week for the third time this year.
During the 2020 season, Tennessee finished with an overall mark of 4-4-1 while finishing the SEC slate at 4-3-1. The Vols lost in the first round of the SEC tournament to Vanderbilt, 4-2.

Wake Forest will hit the road to take on in-state foe, NC State on March 20th.
