The Matchup

  • The No. 2 nationally ranked Demon Deacons will host the Virginia Cavaliers in the quarterfinals of the ACC Men's Soccer Championship.

  • Wake Forest enters the postseason with an overall record of 7-1-0 and a 5-1-0 record in ACC play.

  • Wake Forest clinched the No. 1 seed in this fall's South Region, scoring four more points than No. 2 seed North Carolina.

  • The last matchup between the two ACC programs came last December in the College Cup, where the Cavaliers edged out the Demon Deacons 2-1.

  • The tournament clash will be the 59th meeting all-time between the two sides, with Wake Forest having a 13-38-8 against Virginia.

  • This will also be the 20th time the two ACC foes meet in the ACC Men's Soccer Championship, and the third time in the last four seasons.

  • Wake Forest claimed the 2017 ACC title in a shootout victory over Virginia.

Last Time Out

  • The Demon Deacons finished off their fall regular season games with a 2-0 victory over NC State last Saturday.

  • Wake Forest opened the scoring when junior forward Kyle Holcomb found fellow junior Isiah Parente, who missed the previous two games due to injury, for the first goal of the game in the 16th minute.

  • The Demon Deacons doubled their lead when senior forward Machop Chol floated a cross into Holcomb, who headed it home in the 74th minute. It marked his fifth goal of the season, which currently leads the game.

  • Redshirt juniors Andrew Pannenberg and Dominic Peters both contributed to Wake Forest's fourth shutout of the year.

  • The win was the 31st all-time for the Demon Deacons against the Wolfpack.

Quick Hits

  • The Demon Deacons once again checked in at No. 2 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll. This week's top five was completely made up of ACC schools.

  • Holcomb is currently tied for second in the country in points (11) and goals (five).

  • Sophomore Calvin Harris is also one of just six players nationally with more than 10 points.

  • Pannenberg ranks fifth nationally in goals against average (.685).

Scouting the Cavaliers

  • Virginia enters the matchup with an overall and ACC record of 2-3-1 to earn the fourth seed in the North Region.

  • The Cavaliers are coming off a 1-0 loss to Virginia Tech last Friday. It was the first time this season that Virginia was unable to score a goal in a match.

  • Their seven goals this season came from seven different players.

  • Goalkeepers Alex Rando and Colin Shutler each have played more than 280 minutes between the posts so far this season.

Looking Ahead

  • If Wake Forest defeats Virginia, the Demon Deacons would play either Clemson or Virginia Tech on Wednesday in the semifinals.
