Underclassmen lead Deacons After First Round of All-American
2/16/2020 4:55:00 PM | Men's Golf
HOUSTON, Texas – The Wake Forest men's golf team sits in a tie for second place after day one of the All-American Intercollegiate.
A younger line-up is proving to be quite effective for the Demon Deacons, as freshman Mark Power holds the lead after a bogey-free day, with sophomore Alex Fitzpatrick just three strokes behind him, in a tie for seventh. Sophomore Eugenio Chacarra and freshman Fulton Smith also sit inside the top 25 for the Deacons, at T19 and T23, respectively.
Three birdies on the front nine helped Power get to the top of leaderboard quick, and birdies on three of his last six holes of the day secured his spot at the top, firing a six-under score of 66. After making it through the first nine at even par, Fitzpatrick sank birdies on two of his final five holes to secure a top ten spot heading into day two. An eagle on the first nine and two birdies on Chacarra's final four holes aided his top 20 spot.
Second round tee times will be announced when made available.
