The Dick Enberg Award is given to someone supporting the goals of education and support of the Academic All-America program and/or its ideals.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Former Wake Forest women's basketball standout Amy Privette Perko is set to receive the Dick Enberg Award, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday.
The Dick Enberg Award is given to someone supporting the goals of education and support of the Academic All-America program and/or its ideals. Enberg was heavily involved in the selection prior to his passing, and now his family and our leadership group chooses the recipient.
Perko, who was inducted into the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame in 2000, played for the Demon Deacons from 1984-87, leaving as the Deacs' leader in points, rebounds, assists and steals while also graduating Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in history. She remains in the top 10 in each of those categories.
She was named to CoSIDA's Academic All-America team three times and earned All-ACC honors twice. Perko was also honored as an ACC Legend in 2005. In 2008, Perko was inducted into CoSIDA's Academic All-America Hall of Fame.
Since 2005, Perko has worked with the Knight Commission an Executive Director before being promoted to Chief Executive Officer in 2016. The Commission is an independent group with a legacy of promoting reforms that support and strengthen the educational mission of college sports.
In January 2012, she received the NCAA's prestigious Silver Anniversary Award, which is given to six former college athletes on their 25th anniversary from college participation in recognition of their civic and professional contributions.
The Dick Enberg Award winner is recognized at our Academic All-America Hall of Fame induction ceremony during the CoSIDA convention in Las Vegas (in June in conjunction with NACDA).
