
Despite Second Half Lead Wake Forest Falls at No. 17 Florida State

Senior Alex Sharp posts her 20th double-double of her career, becoming just the fifth player in program history to accomplish the feat.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Wake Forest women's basketball team led for nearly three quarters before falling to No. 17 Florida State, 78-67.
The Demon Deacons (13-14, 6-10 ACC) took a lead into halftime and had as much as a 5-point lead in the second half. The nationally-ranked Seminoles (20-5, 9-5 ACC) jumped in front at the end of the third quarter and never trailed from that point.
Alex Sharp posted her 20th double-double of her career, becoming just the fifth player in program history to reach the marker. The Melbourne, Australia native finished the game with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
She has now led Demon Deacons in rebounds in the last seven games. With two games remaining in the regular season, Sharp needs 19 rebounds to reach 900 in her career. She would be just the fourth player in Wake Forest history to cross that milestone.
Ivana Raca, who finished Thursday's contest with a team-high 17 points, moved one step closer to a career milestone of her own. The Belgrade, Serbia native now needs just 36 points to become the 28th member of the 1000-point club.
This is the third consecutive game Raca has led Wake Forest in scoring.
With the help of a strong effort on the glass and a game-high nine points from Gina Conti in the first half, Wake Forest took a lead into the locker room over the nationally-ranked Seminoles.
The Demon Deacons pounded the glass in the first 10 minutes, holding a 13-6 edge through the first on the boards.
In the first half alone, Alex Sharp notched eight rebounds while also scoring six points for the Deacs.

Wake Forest is back inside of Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Sunday to face North Carolina. The game will also serve as the Demon Deacons annual pink game with proceeds going to the Kay Yow Fund. Auction items can be purchased ahead of the game here.

"In this league, it's always tough to win on the road," head coach Jen Hoover. "I thought especially in the first half we did a good job taking the fight to them and getting on the boards. HOW IT HAPPENED:
- It was a defensive battle on both sides of the court to start with the Deacs holding a 6-2 lead through the first five minutes of action. Gina Conti intercepted a pass at the top of the key and ran the length of the court to put Wake up four at 5:00 of the first quarter.
- The Demon Deacons crashed the glass with authority in the first half. Outrebounding the Seminoles 13-6 in the opening period. It helped them take a 10-7 lead after 10 minutes.
- With the help of a 7-2 run to start the second quarter, the lead continued to grow for Wake Forest. Standing open on the left wing, Gina Conti stepped into a three and banked it off the glass to cap the run. At the 7:08 mark of the second quarter, the Demon Deacons led 17-9.
- Wake Forest was in front for nearly the entire first half, taking a 30-29 edge at the midway point. Gina Conti led all scorers with nine points in the first 20 minutes including seven in the second quarter.
- The game remained close for much of the third quarter and with a three from Alex Sharp at the 8:24 mark Wake Forest led 38-33. The Seminoles went on a run of their own, pulling in 52-46 by the end of the third period.
- Despite winning for the majority of the game, the Demon Deacons were unable to close out Florida State. After taking the lead in the third quarter, the Seminoles pushed the lead up to double digits in the final 10 minutes.
- After trailing by as much as 19 points in the fourth quarter, Wake Forest battled back to make it a 9-point game, but could not get any closer, dropping the Thursday night contest, 78-67.
