SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Wake Forest men's basketball suffered a 75-73 loss to Syracuse in a back-and-forth battle on Saturday night at the Carrier Dome.

Olivier Sarr had 15 points and nine rebounds, Chaundee Brown scored 14 points

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams got off to a slow start offensively, with the Deacs holding a 4-2 lead after the first four minutes before Syracuse went on an 14-0 run to open up a 16-4 lead.  The Orange held the lead around 10 points for the remainder of the first half before taking a 38-30 lead into the break. Chaundee Brown led the team with six first half points.

The Orange opened the second half on an 8-0 run to take a 46-30 lead before the Deacs countered with a 9-0 run of their own.  A 7-0 run by the Deacs cut the lead to three at 54-51 with 12:40 to go. The Orange led 62-53 midway through the second half before the Deacs responded with a 12-1 run to take the lead, 65-63, with 6:30 to play.  The game was tied 65-65 with 5:42 to play when Marek Dolezaj got a technical foul, which was his fifth personal, becoming the third Cuse player to foul out. After Childress made both the technical free throws, Brown's foul line jumper completed a four-point possession.

The Deacs held that 69-65 lead at the final media timeout but the Orange used free throws to tie the game with 2:20 left, 69-69. Wake Forest trailed 73-70 and had the ball with 30 seconds to play when Ismael Massoud hit a three to tie the game with 20 seconds to go. The Orange retook the lead on a putback layup with 1.7 left and the Deacs' half court heave missed to give Syracuse the win.

NOTEWORTHY
  • Chaundee Brown had his eighth double-figure scoring game of the season, his first since Jan. 4 at Pitt
  • Freshman Jahcobi Neath notched a career-best five assists
  • Senior Brandon Childress recorded his 100th assist of the season
  • Sarr now has 17 double-figure scoring games this season
QUOTABLE
"I thought we had a much better second half in terms of scoring the ball, " head coach Danny Manning said. "But in saying that, we also had too many turnovers. We had 12 turnovers in the second half. We did a good job of getting ourselves some extra possessions with offensive rebounds and fast break points. "
