GREENSBORO, N.C. – A pair of Demon Deacons were among the 31 players named to the 2020 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Team, the conference announced Friday (Mar. 6). Freshman forwards Ismael Massoud and Ody Oguama were selected as Wake Forest had two selections for the second straight year.
Massoud has appeared in all 29 games this season off the bench for the Deacs, averaging 5.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. He ranks third on the team with 33 3-pointers while shooting 41.3 percent from deep. Massoud has scored in double figures in four games, all against ACC competition, highlighted by a career-high 14 points in victories over Pitt and Boston College.
Oguama has appeared in all 29 games this season, including 24 starts during his freshman season. He is averaging 3.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 55.4 percent from the floor and ranking second on the team with 24 blocks. Oguama's best play this season has come against Boston College, as he had 10 points and seven rebounds at BC in his collegiate debut and had career-highs of 16 points and 10 rebounds in the January win over the Eagles for his first career double-double.
"I am proud of Ismael and Ody for the hard work they have put into contributing on the court and succeeding in the classroom," said head coach Danny Manning. "To earn this honor as a freshman is a testament to how they have come in and embraced the challenge of playing at this level along with getting their academic career at Wake Forest off to a strong start. They are both great representatives of our program."
Massoud and Oguama become the 26th and 27th all-time Demon Deacons to be named to the squad. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
The Demon Deacons conclude the regular season Friday with a visit to NC State. Game time at PNC Arena is 7:00 p.m., and the game will air on ACC Network.
